What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a process by which you can enter a natural trance state.  Trance is something which we all enter several times every day and the depth (intensity) of the state may vary.  It is a pleasantly relaxed state yet it is not sleep.  In trance you know and can remember what has happened and can choose to leave the state at any time but choose not to do so.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

No. In the unlikely event that you did not come out of trance when directed or requested to do so by the hypnotherapist you would progress from trance to natural sleep.

What is NLP?

NLP presupposes that ;

• Everyone possesses a unique map of the world which is the result of registering sense impressions in their brain
• People possess the inner resources that are necessary to solve problems and make changes in their life.
• A person’s unconscious can and should be engaged in the process of change
• Mind and body are part of the same system and anything occurring in one part of the system will affect the whole system

Neuro Linguistic Programming was developed by Dr. John Grinder and Dr. Richard Bandler and grew out of their work in modelling excellence.
NLP has been described by some as ‘like having a users manual for your brain’.
NLP has variously been described in the following terms,

“It is not a set of techniques it is an attitude. It’s an attitude that has to do with curiosity, with wanting to know about things, wanting to be able to influence things, and wanting to be able to influence them in a way that’s worthwhile.” (R.Bandler)

“the study of the structure of subjective experience” (Dilts, et al)

“The name neurolinguistic programming stands for what we maintain to be the basic process used by all human beings to encode, transfer, guide and modify behaviour.” (Dilts et al.)

“an accelerated learning strategy for detection and use of patterns in the world” ( J.DeLozier)

“NLP studies the way people take in information form the world, how they describe it to themselves with their senses, filter it with their beliefs and values, and act on the result". (C & J Collingwood)

"NLP is a methodology for replicating the talents of highly capable individuals from many fields of endeavour." (C & J Collingwood)

How can I be sure my NLP Practitioner is appropriately trained?

Check out what organisation has accredited the person’s qualifications. For example if it is the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), which is an Australian Government established body with both national and international standing, you can have confidence. There are other worthy accreditation bodies but beware, there are many with minimal standards who provide accreditation provided one pays the set fee. Examine carefully the standards set by the accreditation body and don’t be duped by a prestigious sounding name. Some’ trainers’ issue their own certificates without any external accreditation in which case you might want to carefully examine their background and training before accepting the qualification of their trainees on face value.

What does the NLP Practitioner do?

The NLP practitioner is an agent of change who teaches you how to make your own changes.
